📰 News we're reading

• Rip Current Danger Warnings Issued Across North Shore, MA Coast (patch.com) — Swampscott beachgoers are being urged to use extra caution in the water after the National Weather Service issued rip current warnings along much of the Massachusetts coast. Officials advise swimming near lifeguards, floating instead of fighting the current, and signaling for help if you can't escape, following a recent fatal incident on the Cape.

• North Shore Student-Athletes Earn 2026 Bay State Games Sportsmanship Awards (patch.com) — Student-athletes from Swampscott High School were among more than 40 Bay State Games competitors honored statewide for outstanding sportsmanship, character, and leadership. Coaches selected the winners across eight sports, with each recipient receiving a certificate and medal recognizing how they carried themselves on and off the field.

• Poor recordkeeping muddies latest target of MassHealth fraud probe (commonwealthbeacon.org) — A Swampscott-based company, RM Transportation, previously paid $380,000 to settle allegations it improperly billed MassHealth for rides that weren't needed, as part of a broader statewide crackdown on medical transportation fraud. The latest case targets a Worcester operator accused of millions in false claims, while officials work to tighten recordkeeping and protect Medicaid funds.
