Glover Farmhouse. Swampscott's Tree Committee is pressing developers to retain more mature trees and diversify new plantings, and town officials continue weighing historic preservation against new housing and affordability goals.

• Essex County sees lowest price for diesel gas at $5.39 in week ending Oct. 3 (northbostonnews.com) — Diesel drivers in Swampscott are paying among the higher prices in Essex County, with the town's lowest reported rate at $6.54 per gallon during the week ending Oct. 3. Countywide diesel averaged $6.37, and statewide prices dipped slightly, reflecting volatile global energy markets and tight fuel supplies heading into fall.
