Wayland Opens Cooling Locations Amid Record Heat In MA
Temperatures are expected to feel like more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit.

WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will open cooling locations this week as the Greater Boston area faces record-breaking heat and an Extreme Heat Watch from Wednesday through Friday.
The Wayland Public Library, 5 Concord Road, and the Wayland Public Safety Building, 38 Cochituate Road, will be available to residents seeking relief from the heat, according to the town.
This comes as "extreme heat" is expected to feel like more than 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The National Weather Service on Monday issued an "Extreme Heat Watch" for all of Massachusetts, except for the Berkshires, Cape Cod and the Islands.
The hot weather will also bring the potential for severe storms — especially on Tuesday night, as the hottest weather arrives, and on July 4, as it departs.
Wayland says the library will be open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It will be closed Friday and Saturday for the July 4 holiday.
The Public Safety Building training room will be open 24 hours a day through Wednesday at 8 a.m. and may be used when the library is closed, according to the town.
Town officials said people should limit time outdoors during peak heat and humidity this week, especially in full sunshine. Those without adequate cooling should be monitored for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke; and in case of an emergency, call 911.
More information about staying cool and recognizing heat-related illness is available from the CDC here.
