After a Tough Winter of Training, Firefighter is Ready to Run Boston Marathon

Keith Lermond is one of four Westborough firefighters running the Boston Marathon to raise money for Dana Farber.

Marathon Experience: This will be the second Boston Marathon for Keith Lermond, and 11-year veteran of the . His first was in 2003 when he joined fellow Westborough firefighter Patrick Purcell in running to raise money for the Fallen Firefighters Fund. This year, Purcell has organized a team of four Westborough firefighters to run for Dana Farber.

Reason for Running: Keith said he has been personally touched by cancer and is proud to be running this marathon to raise money for Dana Farber. He said that Patrick Purcell has been an inspiration and instrumental in organizing the team from the Westborough Fire Department.

Training Tips: The father of two boys, 7 and 9, Keith said this winter was a tough one for training. He said it was especially difficult to get out during a month of snowstorms. The  Northbridge resident said he did some of his running on the treadmill, “but it’s just not the same.” He recommends starting early for marathon training.
