19th Annual Senior Fitness Day at The Willows at Westborough

The Willows at Westborough will host its 19th Annual Senior Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 30. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. and the program ends at 12 p.m. This free event gives older adults an opportunity to renew a commitment to health and fitness.

Host and keynote speaker Karen McKenzie, BS, SFS, is Director of the Personalized Exercise Program (PEP) at The Willows. She is the award-winning host of “Seniors on the Move,” a popular Westborough public access TV talk show covering a wide range of topics for seniors.

McKenzie’s main topic will be “A Balancing Act – Preventing the first fall.” One in three people over 65 falls every year. With specific exercises, proper diet, and awareness, many such debilitating falls can be prevented.

 Ann Pantazis, MS, RD, Coordinator of the Diabetes Center for the Fall Clinics, will discuss the importance of proper nutrition in maintaining health and independence as we age.

Jenny Silverberg, MA, owner of Studio Joy in Shrewsbury, will offer a workshop on falls prevention techniques. She is a movement therapist who practices Nia, a non-impact form of aerobic dance.

The half day schedule will also include additional health information, blood pressure checks, and balance screening, all provided free. McKenzie and campus Executive Director Ben Colonero invite visitors to tour The Willows independent living community and its PEP Center, and to participate in raffle giveaways.
