IMAGE GALLERY: Haley Welsh Advances to Free Throw Finals

Six Westborough free throw talents, ages 10 to 14, competed in a district championship on March 10.

 

On Saturday, March 10, six Westborough free throw talents competed in the The group competed against 65 other hoopsters from across central Massachusetts. Haley Welsh, 10, placed first in her age group and advanced to the state finals to be held at Regis College in Weston on April 7.

“They are all champions and great sports,” said Herman Millet of the “This was a very competitive event and all the Westborough free throw shooters did really well.”

Nine winners then moved to the next level, held at Wachusett Regional High School on Feb. 13. Six of the winners in that competition went on to compete in the central Massachusetts district wide contest on March 10. These are the participants and results:

  • Jason Hicks, 10-year-old boy
  • Haley Welsh, 10-year-old girl, 1st Place
  • Caroline Grady, 12-year-old girl
  • Cavan Crowley, 13-year-old boy, 2nd Place. Cavan made 21 of 25 shots. The first place winner in his age group scored 25 of 25.
  • Kaleigh Wright, 13-year-old girl,  2nd Place. Kaleigh tied for second with 16 of 25 shots. She then broke the tie, scoring 4 of 5 throws.
  • Eric Latimer, 14-year-old boy, 2nd Place. Eric made 19 of his 25 free throw shots.

Parents and past Grand Knights Jim O’Connor, Dave Cox and Herman Millet were there to support the Westborough shooters.
