Marathon experience: This will be Ed’s first marathon. He has been a casual runner through the years, participating in 5K races “here and there," but never a marathon the size of Boston. “Last week I ran 20 miles, a new personal best for me,” he said.
Reason for running: Ed said he has always wanted to run the Boston Marathon. His voice lightened when he said, “I am running for charity on the Team in Training for the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.” He said the cause is important to him because he lost a close friend to leukemia 25 years ago, and he has another friend who is a survivor of non-Hodgkins lymphoma. His goal is to raise $1,000 per mile, for a total of $26,200. To date, he has raised over $25,000. “I’ve done it with a huge amount of support from friends and family,” he said. Ed will be running in the marathon wearing a purple team shirt and the names of the two people who are inspiring his run.

Training tip: Ed said that Team in Traning has been engaged in “pretty intense” training since November with coaches and mentors. He said the workouts and runs have helped to get everyone ready for the Boston Marathon. His advice for anyone interested in trying a marathon is to “believe in yourself and stay focused,” he said. “You can do it.”
