Weymouth Woman Gives Birth Hour After Discovering Pregnancy - In January, a Weymouth woman got a little more than she expected when a trip to the hospital for stomach pain was really the start of a surprise delivery. Katherine Kropas was told that she was pregnant when the went to South Shore Hospital on and only one hour after arriving, she was the mother of a baby girl.
  2. Weymouth Man Killed in Hingham Car Crash - In May, a Weymouth man died after being struck by a boat trailer on Route 3A in Hingham. An investigation indicated that the pedestrian had been standing on the sidewalk near the MBTA Bus and fell or stepped onto the road where he was struck by the trailer that was being towed by a southbound vehicle.
  3. Weymouth Superintendent Chosen for Cambridge Post - In October, the Cambridge School Committee voted 6-1 to name Salim as their superintendent contingent on the ability of the candidate and the committee to reach an agreement on a contract.

In September, workers were at a hangar at the former air naval base constructing the set for the remake of the hit 1984 comedy starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth.
  9. Student Bragging About Possessing Weapon Leads to Weymouth High Lockdown - In May, a student boasting about possessing a weapon led to a lockdown at Weymouth High School. Teachers and staff were told to stay put after a classroom of students and a teacher reported that they overheard a student outside of their classroom boasting that he had a weapon on him. Within minutes, Weymouth police were on the scene and the suspect was located 10 minutes later.

South Shore Hospital Listed Among Top Hospitals - When it comes to patient care, South Shore Hospital is among the best.The latest Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services-Hospital Compare list was compiled after researchers looked at data for nearly 5,000 hospitals across the country. The results of surveys from patients were also used to rank the centers in regard to in-patient care.In the latest report, the Weymouth-based hospital was one of 25 hospitals to receive at least four stars. Only one hospital got the coveted five stars. No Massachusetts hospitals received a one-star ranking.
