Winchester residents expand family business with Cummings Properties

WINCHESTER – Founded in 2008 by Winchester resident Scott Veggeberg, Homeworks Energy, a major firm specializing in residential energy conservation, moved to Woburn in February 2013, starting with a 1,300-square-foot office at Cummings Properties’ Henshaw Street location.

Homeworks soon doubled its space, moving to an adjacent building with a warehouse. The energy efficiency company now leases a combined 8,520 feet of space from the commercial real estate firm. Most recently, it added 5,920 square feet of office space at nearby 68 Cummings Park.

Veggeberg’s son Max, also a Winchester resident, graduated from Boston University with a degree in business and began working with the company in 2012 as the marketing manager. He is now CEO of the company.

“We service all of Massachusetts and some of New Hampshire,” he said. “Cummings Park offers a prime location right on 93 and 95. As Homeworks continues to grow, it’s nice to know that Cummings can accommodate our expansion needs.”

An approved contractor of the Mass Save energy savings program, the company has gone from six employees in 2012 to 45 employees currently. Specialists audit the energy efficiency of clients’ homes and provide no-cost energy-saving fixes, such as CFL light bulbs, low-flow showerheads, and programmable thermostats, as well as low-cost estimates for energy-efficient home improvements. He attributes the company’s growth to a strong focus on customer service.

“We work closely with our customers to identify money-saving, low-cost energy improvements and to make them in the least invasive way possible,” said Veggeberg. “Thirty to 40 percent of our business comes from referrals.”
