Woburn Hit and Run Victim Suffers Fractured Ankle

WOBURN, MA—While Woburn police search for the man who assaulted an officer and struck a pedestrian with his vehicle, his victim is starting his recovery process.

WHDH reported Tuesday that 65-year-old Alfred Pica suffered a fractured ankle in the incident. Police say that Pica was struck by a white Chevrolet driven by 29-year-old Tyson Delgado while crossing the street in Woburn and carried him for several hundred feet until Pica fell off the roof of his car. Police said that Pica was transported to Lahey Hospital for serious injuries.

“The pain, I can’t describe the pain,” Pica told WCVB’s John Atwater. “That’s how severe it is. I’m aching all over.”

Pica also estimated to Atwater that Delgado was traveling at speeds of 60 miles per hour when his vehicle struck Pica. 

“I begged him, ‘Please just stop and let me off your car. Please,’” Pica told WBZ-TV’s Julie Loncich.

Pica later told CBS Boston that Delgado was on his cell phone during the collision.

“He was talking on the cell phone,” Pica told CBS Boston. “Talking on the cell phone.”

Delgado, of Winthrop, is wanted for larceny, assault and battery, and leaving the scene of an accident after causing serious personal injury after allegedly assaulting a police officer and hitting another man with his vehicle Wednesday morning, according to a statement by Acting Police Chief Robert Rufo.

“This suspect has no regard for the safety of others as evidenced by this morning’s events,” Rufo said. “We urge anyone with information about this suspect’s location to immediately contact Woburn Police. With the public’s help we hope to get this dangerous individual off the streets before anyone else is harmed.”
