Global Pharmaceutical Company Issues Large-scale Layoffs In Cambridge
Cambridge is one of the business's main headquarters.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — A pharmaceutical company is laying off a large portion of its workforce, according to a state filing.
Takeda Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act with the state earlier this month, signaling its upcoming dismissal of 247 Massachusetts employees. The WARN was first filed on Wednesday, March 25, and layoffs are slated to begin on July 1 later this year.
Takeda has multiple spaces in which it operates in Kendall Square, and is now beginning the process of reducing its Cambridge footprint. According to the company, the employees affected all work out of its location at 500 Kendall Street.

It first arrived in the United States in 1977 through a joint venture with Abbott Laboratories. In 2014, Takeda shifted its main focus to oncology and the study of rare diseases under the leadership of CEO Christophe Weber. Takeda currently has locations in 39 American states, with Cambridge being the global headquarters for research and development of oncology.
