Arrest Made In Deadly Worcester Double-Shooting
Two men were shot early in the morning on July 3 near the Lakeside Apartments.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police on Monday announced an arrest in a deadly double-shooting at the Lakeside Apartments earlier this month.
Javier Moctezuma, 20, of Veterans Avenue, was arrested and charged Monday with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The shooting happened just before 1:30 a.m. on July 3 along Garland Street. Two men were shot near basketball courts at the apartment complex. One man died at a local hospital, the other survived with serious injuries.
The Lakeside Apartments double-shooting kicked off a violent July in Worcester.
- Bryan Beras, 18, has been charged in connection to a July 22 daylight shooting in the Main South area that left two people wounded.
- On July 20, a 20-year-old man was shot near the intersection of Pleasant and Piedmont streets.
- On July 16, a 2-year-old girl was wounded after a car she was riding in may have been hit by gunfire near Crompton Park.
- On July 9, a man was shot and wounded along Mt. Pleasant St. Jose Merced, 33, of Worcester, was arrested in connection to that shooting.
- In the afternoon on July 10, a man was shot near businesses along Hope Avenue. Two people under age 18 were arrested in that shooting.
- Leroy Thompson Jr. 25, of Almont Avenue, was charged after a deadly July 4 shooting that happened after an argument over a restaurant bill.
