Few Changes in Farmington Schools' 2012-2013 Calendar

If you're counting, school starts in 35 days for Farmington Public Schools students. 

The first full day of classes is Sept. 4, after the Labor Day three-day weekend. In a press release, school officials announced this year's calendar, created with input from a survey and focus groups, will look much like last year's. 

"While there were a large number of  suggestions to avoid half days, delayed starts and/or early release days, the District is unable to provide a schedule without these types of days included within the calendar," the release indicated. "The district is committed to meeting" requests that the calendar be released early and that calendar changes be limited and reported promptly to families. 

Here's a list of half-days, late starts and holidays, and the full calendar can be found at farmington.k12.mi.us:

• Sept. 24 - All students half day
• Oct. 17 - Delayed start for 10th, 11th and 12th grades
• Oct. 25 - Elementary/Upper Elementary half day
• Oct. 29 - All students half day
• Nov. 6 - Election Day, staff inservice all day
• Nov. 21 - Thanksgiving Recess begins at close of day, school resumes Nov. 26
• Nov. 29 - High school students half day
• Nov. 30 - All students half day
• Dec. 12 - Delayed start for 11th and 12th grades
• Dec. 17 - All students half day
• Dec. 21 - Winter vacation begins at close of day, school resumes Jan. 3
• Jan. 14 - All students half day
• Jan. 21 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
• Feb. 12 - Delayed start for 9th, 10th and 12th grades
• Feb. 15 - Winter break begins at close of day, school resumes Feb. 25
• Mar. 5-6 - No school for 9th, 10th and 12th grades
• Mar. 7 - Delayed start for 9th, 10th and 12th grades
• Mar. 14 - High school students half day
• Mar. 15 - All students half day
• Mar. 28 - Spring break begins at close of day, school resumes Apr. 8
• Apr. 15 - All students half day
• May 6 - All students half day
• May 24 - Elementary and Upper Elementary Half Day
• May 27 - Memorial Day
• June 9 - High school graduations
• June 13 - High school half day; Farmington Central High graduation
• June 14 - Last day of school, all students half day
