Fox Run in Novi Gives Scholarships to Area Students

Fifteen high school students from Oakland and Wayne Counties have received scholarships to help them attend college from , where they have worked part-time.

Among the honorees were Brandon Wolok and Ryan Wolok, who both attend North Farmington High in Farmington Hills. 

The students received a combined total of $105,000 raised by Fox Run residents during the past two months to show their appreciation of the students’ work and to help assist them financially in their post-secondary education.

“Many of our scholarship recipients have worked hard for the past two years to maintain their grades while working at Fox Run in addition to the many school and extra-curricular obligations.” said Marianne Mikkelsen, the community’s philanthropy manager.

“For most of these students this scholarship means the difference between continuing the education or not. These students work for at least two years during which time they are trained, mentored and cared for by the 950 residents who become surrogate grandparents to them. We, as a community, want to make an impact on the future of these young adults and feel we can do that by encouraging them to further their education.”

She said 87 percent of Fox Run’s residents participated in this year’s scholarship fundraising drive.

• Kelly Parliament - Walled Lake Western
• Tarik Tabb - Southfield

“Not only do students receive scholarships at the end of their tenure at Fox Run, but our residents build relationships with them, ask them about school, and encourage them to keep working hard,” said Mikkelsen. “Our residents are good role models for the young adults and serve as examples for what a good education can do for one’s life."

More than $700,000 in scholarship monies has been awarded to students who work part-time at Fox Run since 2004.
