Harrison High Senior Finishes K-12 Career With Perfect Attendance

Quinn Culbertson says he just took one day at a time to achieve a goal he set in elementary school.

Around the time he was in second grade, Quinn Culbertson realized he hadn't missed a day of school since kindergarten.

"I wanted to see how long I could keep it going, and here I am," the senior said. He will graduate June 10 having not missed a single day of school since kindergarten. 

Culbertson said his parents encouraged him once he set his goal, and it probably helped that his mother, Judy, is a nurse.

"She always kept me healthy and always got me to school on time," he said. 

But he also recognizes it took something special in him to get through 13 school years without a single absence.

"I just tried to focus on schoolwork and just take one day at a time," said Culbertson, who also attended and . He also kept his grades up and finishes high school with a 3.8 grade point average. 

With plans to attend the University of Toledo and study mechanical engineering, Culbertson said achieving his attendance goal will serve him well.

"It shows I have determination, and I feel like that can help me with my future," he said. "That's always a good trait to have." 

His days of perfect attendance, though, may be over once he gets to college.

"I'll do the best I can," he said, "but I'm not so sure."
