Local Artists Honored at Farmington Area Arts Commission Awards
A 'Book Art' piece takes first place among three dimensional art works submitted by Farmington area high school students.
After Thursday night's Farmington Area Arts Commission 2012 Awards, family and friends gathered around one of the most unusual award-winning art works on display at the in Farmington Hills.
"How to Book Art", a human figure created from repurposed books, was the first place winner in the High School Student Art Awards Three-Dimensional category. Artist Jacquelyn Pegg, a senior at , said she learned about the art form when her art teacher Scott Brazeau brought his own "Book Man" to school.
"I thought it was so cool and so inspiring," said Pegg, who plans to study broadcast journalism and photography at Oakland University in the fall. She said with Brazeau's help, she created her own version by playing with the materials.

Also receiving awards were 2012 Artist in Residence William Allen Brown, Distinguished Service to the Arts Award winners Brian and Cynthia Tupper and Farmington Artist Foundation juried spring exhibition winners. (.)

Cultural Arts Coordinator Nancy Coumoundouros honored arts volunteers Laura Braun, Linda and Rocky Pudlik, Kathy Maczko, and Rachelle Willnus for the countless hours they devote to arts programming.
The following Senior Art Award winners, whose works are on display at the Costick Center, were recognized:
- 1st place - Elaine Silk, pastel
- 2nd place - Ukdae Lee, oil painting
- 3rd place - Penelope Trikes, pastel
- Honorable Mention - JoAnn Billiu, oil painting
- Honorable Mention- Phyllis Madison, oil painting
