Supporters Raise $2,300 for Farmington's Off the Beaten Path Bookstore & Cafe
The funds will turn the lights back on and keep the store going.

The minute you walk in the front door, it’s easy to see why the community has banded together to aid Off the Beaten Path Bookstore and Cafe.
The quaint book shop, specializing in all things steampunk, opened its doors a mere seven months ago, but has made its mark in Farmington. From a man arguing about which book he will immerse himself in next, to the news playing on an iHome speaker system throughout the store, the store has all the ambiance of a cozy home.
Unfortunately, the first year has been rough, financially. When the electricity was shut off July 20, owner Sal Palland decided to do a fundraiser to help keep the business open and introduce herself to the community.

“It’s summertime, and I wanted a way to keep things going until the fall,” Palland said. “Trying to get through the first year of opening any business is tough.”
After an outdoor concert, a bake sale, and a silent auction, Off the Beaten Path fans raised $2,300 to relieve any summer sales stress, as well as turning the lights back on in the bookshop.

“People really came out to show their support, and I can’t thank them enough. It’s been great for business,” Palland said.
The money will also help with future community-wide events. Palland is busy working on an Oct. 15 event, called Fall Fantasy Mind, Body, and Spirit Expo.
“The idea is to have vendors from around the plaza come and set up tables and have a fun day for the entire community,” Palland said.
Off the Beaten Path is also holding an on-line auction, featuring everything from handmade afghans to white muslin Victorian bloomers. Visit the website to see a list of items up for bids.
