These programs, including Lakeview Virtual School, offer tuition-free virtual and blended learning with certified teachers while keeping students tied to their home communities. Parents can choose flexible pathways that fit their child's schedule, needs and grade level.
   

2. Trustees honor firefighters, tweak water contract (candgnews.com) — Macomb Township firefighters were formally honored for saving a resident's life after a June medical emergency, highlighting the strength of local emergency response. At the same meeting, trustees adjusted the township's Great Lakes Water Authority contract to lower capacity limits, a move officials say should help soften future water rate increases for residents.
   

3. Sterling Heights man sentenced for girlfriend's beating death (detroitnews.com) — A Sterling Heights man has been sentenced in Macomb County Circuit Court to life in prison without parole for the 2023 beating death of his girlfriend. Prosecutors say the mandatory Michigan sentence ensures he cannot harm anyone else, while local domestic violence resources are highlighted for residents who may need help. Authorities urge anyone in danger to contact police or hotlines immediately.
   

4. Mount Clemens woman's child-porn sentence upped from 2 to 12 months (macombdaily.com) — A Mount Clemens woman's jail sentence for distributing child sexually abusive material has been increased from two months to one year after Macomb County prosecutors successfully sought resentencing. County officials say the tougher punishment better reflects the seriousness of the crime, and the defendant must register as a tier II sex offender and forfeit related devices.
   

5. Eisenhower debuts new stadium with shutout of Stevenson (macombdaily.com) — Utica Eisenhower boys soccer opened its renovated Swinhart Stadium with a 3-0 shutout of Sterling Heights Stevenson in a Macomb Area Conference crossover match. The Eagles, a longtime Macomb County power, stayed perfect on the season while limiting Stevenson's chances and showcasing their depth in goal. Tough upcoming games against Troy Athens and Romeo will further test this local contender.
