Construction, Development Top Council Agenda

Plans for the Golf Dome, youth sports dome and a new housing development will go before the City Council.

Tonight the Edina City Council will be considering multiple construction and development projects that include , site location of a sports dome facility and the review of plans for an apartment complex to be located near Southdale Center.

The city has been waiting to rebuild the Golf Dome since it first collapsed in February 2011, the result of a fire. While there had been hope that a sports dome—meant to house youth sports activities year-round—could be constructed adjacent to the Golf Dome site, that plan no longer appears feasible due to both financial and logistical constraints.

To cut down on costs the city has recommended that the new Golf Dome be constructed using the concrete foundation of the old dome; as a result plans to locate the youth sports dome at a different location will be presented tonight as well.

In addition to other routine business, the Council will also be considering hiring a consultant to look into the operations, programs and services offered by the , a move recommended by the Parks and Recreation Department. The consultant services are expected to cost $21,000.
