Edina Students Receive National Yearbook Program Of Excellence Award

May 27, 2020 – South View Middle School and Edina High School students have been awarded Jostens’ National Yearbook Program of Excellence Award. The award recognizes those who excel in creation and distribution of their yearbook.

Every yearbook published by Jostens is automatically entered into the contest, but only a handful of yearbooks receive the honor each year. Both Ellen Guerin, social studies teacher for EHS and Betsy Madson, paraprofessional for SVMS have seen their students receive this award multiple times during their respective years as yearbook advisors. “The criteria and objectives for winning the Jostens National Award for excellence are good,” said Guerin. “They include meeting all five of our publishing deadlines, covering at least 60% of the student body at least three times in the book, and having the cover design and end sheets all completed by the deadline.”

The yearbook program at South View is a club-based program with students meeting once a week before school, while yearbook is a year-long, credit-bearing class at EHS. Students will be able to display the award in their school and can highlight their achievements on resumes and college applications.

Madson is glad the work of her students is being recognized. “Students produce a book their fellow classmates, friends and community will be proud of and value for years to come,” said Madson. “I am proud of all the work the students have contributed to making a book that families are enjoying.”
