Edina's 'Bandies': Life in the Middle School Marching Band

Read an interview with the marching band's directors.

This year 82 local middle school students will bring music into the hot summer air as part of the Edina Summer Middle School Concert to Marching Band.

The band's directors, Amanda Kremer and Geneva Fitzsimonds, spoke recently about the origins of the band, their favorite instruments and the fun of school fight songs.

What’s your favorite marching band song?
Growing up in Missouri and being a part of a competitive marching band, I would have to say that I will always a special place in my heart for my high school and college fight songs. And now, as a band director I get to add the Edina School Song to that list. There is so much pride that goes into a school song. And as a “bandie,” you experience it in a very rewarding way! I have been a Tiger, a Bear and now a Hornet, and it’s the school fight song that makes those mascots mean so much more! I can always pick out the Edina alumni in the crowd on the 4th of July, because they are the ones standing up and clapping and singing to the school song! Go Hornets!
