MN Politicians Condemn Russia's 'Invasion Of A Free Democracy'

Several elected officials from Minnesota Thursday condemned Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At least 40 people have been killed, according to Ukrainian officials, and many more casualties are expected.
The United States and countries across Europe have promised strong financial sanctions against Russia for its aggression.

"Putin’s invasion of a free democracy has begun," said Sen. Amy Klobuchar. "The warnings from our Intel sources were right. There must now be swift sanctions and consequences worldwide. It is the time for our and our world to unite. We stand with the brave people of Ukraine."
"You’re either for Democracy or for authoritarianism," wrote Rep. Dean Phillips. "Here and abroad."
"This morning, as we watch the news of war in Europe unfold, my heart is with the Ukrainian people. I condemn, in the strongest possible terms, this unlawful military action by Russia, which will doubtlessly lead to profound human loss and suffering," said Rep. Angie Craig.
"Vladimir Putin's actions violate the core principles that uphold global peace and security, seeking to change the borders of a sovereign country by force. This demonstrates a clear disregard for Ukraine's sovereignty and the rights of the Ukrainian people — and is in clear violation of international law. In the hours and days to come, the United States, in coordination with its allies around the globe, must impose severe economic consequences on Russia, support NATOR and rally international support for the legitimate, democratically elected government of Ukraine."
Biden pledged new sanctions to punish Russia for the "unprovoked and unjustified attack." The president said he planned to speak to Americans on Thursday after a meeting of the Group of Seven leaders. More sanctions against Russia were expected to be announced.
The invasion of Ukraine could also lead to further inflation and rising prices in Minnesota and across the U.S.

"Russia is one of the leading oil producers globally, behind only the United States and Saudi Arabia," said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. "And if they choose to withhold their oil from the global market, such a move would eventually be reflected in higher gas prices for American drivers."
