CONCORD, NH — The winner of the $487 million Powerball from July 30, 2016, will be making themselves known next week and also announcing a number of charitable donations at the same time, according to the New Hampshire Lottery Commission. A press conference will be held at commission headquarters in Concord on Sept. 12.

According to officials, “representatives for the $487 million Powerball winner will come forward to claim the winning ticket and to make an announcement regarding the winner’s philanthropic plans for the prize.”

The holder of the winning ticket is being represented by Shaheen & Gordon and a number of New Hampshire nonprofits will also be on hand for the announcement.

The ticket was the 10th winning Powerball ticket sold in New Hampshire and the first since 2007. The ticket holder has two options for the payout – a lump-sum cash option of around $341 million or the option of an annuity payment across 30 years. If they choose the one-time cash option, 25 percent of winnings will be withheld for federal taxes, meaning the payout will be about $256 million. The lottery also offers an annuity payment plan that increases annually. An estimated $7.3 million payment would be made the first year and the 29th payment would be an estimated $30.2 million, each before taxes.
