CONCORD, NH — It may be the best grand 50 people running for president will ever spend in their lives … or at least this year. Fifty candidates plunked down $1,000 to obtain a spot on New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation presidential primary ballot – one of the largest collection of candidates in modern political history. In 2016, 58 candidates ran while 62 ran in 1992, according to reports online.

The filing period, which began on Oct. 30, ended Friday at 4:30 p.m.

While most voters have been focusing on the Democrats running, because there is an incumbent Republican president, there are more than half the number of Republicans running as Democrats – including three New Hampshire residents.
