Concord Fire Chief Offers Updates on Brush, Eldridge Road Fires
Update: 6 acres were scorched yesterday at Lewis Farm; smoke alarms helped save children during house fire on the Heights.

CONCORD, NH — The Concord Fire Department has issued updates about two local fires during the past few days. Chief Dan Andrus of the Concord Fire Department stated that the Lewis Farm brush fire, a two-alarm fire that burned across 6 acres, was caused “by burning some brush.”
Andrus said that it was surprising to have a brush fire this early in the season but the ground conditions are bare currently.
Fire investigators are continuing to eye the cause of the fire on 9 Eldridge St. off Airport Road on Sunday which led to a dog being killed and 11 people displaced. The investigation – however – revealed how important smoke alarms are, Andrus noted.

“The investigation has ascertained that there were working smoke alarms in the home that were present and that they activated during (the) incident,” he noted. “While the incident occurred in the middle of the day, the loss of life of a family pet indicates how quickly fire and smoke can spread and demonstrates the value of working smoke alarms in alerting residents to a fire in the home. There were several young children in this home and a fire that occurred without working alarms could have been a major tragedy for our community.”
