CONCORD, NH – Tom Sica, the principal of Concord High School, has resigned. Concord Board of Education President Jennifer Patterson made a motion at the board's meeting agenda Monday to update it to include Sica's resignation. The board agreed to release the sealed minutes of a nonpublic meeting Sept. 25 in order to discuss Sica's resignation.

Sica, it turns out, was terminated during the nonpublic meeting but board members voted to seal the meeting's minutes. The vote, at that time, to terminate was unanimous, 9-0.

Instead of fighting the termination, according to Patterson, Sica offered his resignation, effective Nov. 1.

That vote, along with a vote to not renew Sica's contract, was also unanimous.

No details were released about Sica's settlement package at post time.

Similar to the termination vote of former School Superintendent Terri Forsten which ultimately led to her resigning instead of fighting the termination, both Sica and Forsten could have challenged their terminations all the way to the state Supreme Court.

Patterson said Monday that if Sica decided to fight termination, the fight could have gone on for up to a year, all the while, he would be collecting a salary, based on being placed on administrative leave.
