CONCORD, NH — State officials have identified the remains of a woman found in August 2021.
Alberta Leeman was last seen in July 1978. She was 63 at the time. Her body was in a car found submerged the Connecticut River in Lancaster last year.
“DNA testing by Bode Technology compared a DNA sample of Ms. Leeman’s relative to the human remains found within the vehicle registered to Ms. Leeman,” said Amber Lagace, of the New Hampshire State Police. “The testing confirmed the identity of Ms. Leeman who had been missing for decades.”

Her manner of death was deemed an accident, according to a forensic anthropologist and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner’s Office, while the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries sustained during a motor vehicle crash.
“The events surrounding Ms. Leeman’s death are not considered to be suspicious,” Lagace said.

Leeman’s family, she added, appreciated the diligent efforts of law enforcement and medical partners who brought the investigation to a conclusion.
Fatal Crash On I-93
State police investigated a rollover crash on May 17.
Around 10 p.m., state troopers were sent to Interstate 93 south in Bethlehem on a report of a 2016 BMW 535 that crashed into the median between Exits 41 and 42. The driver and lone occupant was Heather White, 25, of Bethlehem. She was declared deceased at the scene, according to Lagace.
“Investigating troopers believe a series of conditions, to include excessive speed and not wearing a seat belt, were contributing factors to this fatal crash,” she said.
Troopers were assisted by members of the Littleton, Bethlehem and Franconia police departments, the Bethlehem Fire Department, and Bethlehem Ambulance.
