Haynes, a native of Stuart, Florida, had moved to New Hampshire to live with relatives, resettling after a tumultuous relationship with a man that led to her being convicted of domestic violence and a restraining issued for her protection. According to posts online, the family grew unnerved during the time period when her remains were found and the release of information about her case nearly a year later.

Evidence found in 2018 included remains inside of a washing machine as well as crates removed from a pond in Grafton. Authorities also searched a camper on a wooded lot on French Hill Road in the town, the home of a friend, and a home she was staying in.

Limited information has been released about the case since then, frustrating friends and family as they have urged others to push pressure on investigators to release information, make an arrest, or inform the family what is happening with the case.
To that end, two weeks ago, some homes in Concord received postcards asking the public to get involved with the case.
Some friends have called out the last two people to see Haynes alive — Douglas Carl Smith Jr., a career criminal, and convicted rapist, as well as his wife, Ashley Ruff Smith, and requested them to come forward and tell authorities what they know about her disappearance. Smith, who was previously convicted on rape, burglary, duty to inform, assault, theft, violation of parole, and violation of protective order charges, reached "a global plea agreement" between Merrimack and Sullivan counties in December 2020 to rape, three wrongful voting charges, a felony reckless conduct with a deadly weapon charge, a felon in possession of a firearm charge, and a felony duty to inform-subsequent charge. He was expected to serve at least five to 10 years in prison.
Neither has spoken publicly about Haynes' disappearance except for a single interview Ashley Ruff Smith had with WMUR-TV four years ago when investigators searched the couple's property.
Attendees to the rally are being asked to use the #JusticeForTrishHaynes hashtag to promote awareness about the case.
Haynes’s death is still being actively investigated, and anyone with information is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Police at 603-223-4381.
