Minimum-Security Walkaway Surrenders To Police: Corrections

Update: Drug felon James Vigeant is accused of not returning to work after a break last week. He turned himself into police on Friday.

CONCORD, NH — A minimum-security walkaway who was placed on escape status last week is back behind bars, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. James Vigeant, 34, was placed on "escape" status on July 23, 2019, after allegedly failing to return to his job in Concord after a work break. On Friday, according to Laura Montenegro, the public information officer for the department, he turned himself in to Concord police.

Vigeant, who was an inmate at the North End Transitional Housing Unit in Concord, is now back at the New Hampshire Prison for Men and now faces a felony escape charge which could result in another 3.5 to seven years in prison, if convicted. He was sentenced to prison on drug charges in 2018. Vigeant's had a minimum parole date of February of this year with a maximum release date of December 2020.
