Zachary J. Albert, 40, of Church Street in Laconia was arrested at 8:45 p.m. on June 16 on possession of methamphetamine and falsifying physical evidence charges, both felonies, and a breach of bail charge. At 9:46 p.m., Jeremy M. Fortin, 40, of Concord was arrested on possession of a controlled drug and falsifying physical evidence, both felonies, as well as resisting arrest or detention charges. Around 7:45 p.m., an officer and a detective on patrol along with another detective in a separate vehicle suspected there was drug activity going on in the area of the Holiday Inn on North Main Street. The second detective reported to the officer and detective that he believed he saw a “hand-to-hand drug transaction” with a passenger in a Chevrolet Trax in the parking lot. A third vehicle, with another detective and officer, followed the Chevrolet as it left the lot. The woman who was driving the vehicle pulled into the Cumbies, went into the store, and then left. As the driver drove out of the parking lot, the officer said she failed to use a required turn signal while turning south on North Main Street and then onto Storrs Street. The Trax was pulled over on Storrs Street by the reporting officer, underneath the Legislative Parking Garage. The passenger in the vehicle was Albert who was known by the officer and detective due to “previous police-related interactions,” the report stated. The driver was questioned and said she went into the store to get something to drink. When asked about being in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, she denied it. Later, though, the report said, she admitted to being in the parking lot to meet the unknown man and purchased $10 worth of marijuana from him. She denied knowing his name though, the affidavit said. The officer and detective then spoke to Albert who said “he knew of the man and was familiar with him from the street but did not know his name,” an affidavit stated. A consent search of the vehicle was requested from the driver, and she agreed, and a plastic bag with a crystalized substance believed to be methamphetamine was found in the glove compartment of the vehicle, the report said. The officer spoke to the driver who claimed Albert “moved his body towards the glove box where the suspected methamphetamine was located,” the affidavit said. Albert was then arrested. During questioning, Albert said the drug dealer’s name was “Jay,” the officer wrote, and “ran into Jay by accident.” He was “unfamiliar” with what was found in the glove box, the officer accused him of saying, and denied using drugs. Later, police arrested Fortin and he was placed in a cell next to Albert. Not long after, dispatch, while watching security cameras, accused Fortin, while in handcuffs, of taking an item in his hands and handing it to Albert. Albert was then accused of shoving the item into his pants. Albert was out on bail on four sale of controlled drug charges at the time of the arrest.
