Police Arrest 2nd Subject Involved In Baby Born In Homeless Tent Case

MANCHESTER, NH — A second person connected to a baby born inside a homeless camp tent and left in freezing temperatures on Christmas night 2022 has been arrested.

George Theberge, 45, a homeless felon now located in Manchester, was charged with felony witness tampering, reckless conduct, and endangering the welfare of a child after an incident on the West Side of the city on Dec. 25 and Dec. 26, 2022.

“Therberge is believed to have been with the baby’s mother, Alexandra Eckersley, when she gave birth in a tent on the West Side of Manchester,” Heather Hamel, a public information officer for the Manchester Police Department, said on Wednesday.

At the time of the birth, the temperatures were approximately 15 degrees, and the baby was left alone in the tent for more than an hour before police found the child, she added.

Alexandra Eckersley, the adoptive daughter of Dennis Eckersley, the Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame pitcher and broadcaster, and his second wife, Nancy, was arrested. He has filed a guardianship petition for his grandson, published reports stated.

“Allie,” as she was known in Concord’s homeless community, had been camping in the capital region from 2018 the fall of last year. During that time, she has been repeatedly in Concord since February 2018, not long after moving out of her parent’s home in Massachusetts. The family said she has a history of severe mental illness. She was arrested on the night of the incident on a Concord District Court warrant for endangering the welfare of a child. Later, Alexandra Eckersley was charged with second-degree assault-extreme indifference and falsifying physical evidence charges, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor counts of reckless conduct and endangering the welfare of a child. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to superior court records, Theberge has been convicted on felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, domestic violence-stalking, domestic violence-stalking-subsequent, violation of probation or parole, and other charges. He was arrested in a Manchester drug raid in 2017, according to a post on Patch. In June 2015, he was accused of failure to appear on a meth possession charge, simple assault, and criminal trespass charges. Theberge was arrested again in July 2016 on the charges. While living in Greenville in November 2019, he was arrested again on a violation of parole or probation on a meth possession charge.

Theberge has an active drug and resisting case working its way through superior court.
