CONCORD, NH — The New Hampshire Department of Corrections is asking for the public’s help in finding a convicted thief who is wanted on a parole violation.

Joshua Matthew Schuppert is 33, white, about 5 feet, 6 inches tall, and weighs around 165 pounds. He has blue eyes and brown hair. Schuppert, according to officials, sometimes uses the alias “Matthew Schoppert.”

Schuppert has warrants out from the Durham police, the state parole board, and Maine.

Corrections said Schuppert was previously convicted on theft charges and sentenced to jail. While out on parole, though, he was accused of failing to abide by the conditions of his release and had absconded from supervision.

“Schuppert’s last known address was in Newmarket, but he is known to have ties to the seacoast area of NH, southern Maine, and the Manchester area,” an alert stated. “Schuppert has an extensive criminal history involving multiple felony-level thefts.”

While on parole, Schuppert “amassed new active arrest warrants out of the Durham Police Department and has pending theft warrants out of the state of Maine.”

Schuppert, officials said, frequently visits casinos and has conducted online scams, pawned off fake gold, and various antiques to fuel his gambling habit.

“Anyone who encounters this individual, either in person or through online forums, should avoid any dealings with him and immediately contact law enforcement,” officials said.

Schuppert’s criminal history dates back about seven years, according to superior court records, when he was accused of forgery in Epping, Newmarket, Northwood, Seabrook, and Stratham in July and August 2019. He pleaded guilty to two charges as part of a plea deal in February 2021 and received two two- to four-year prison sentences, both suspended for four years. In June 2024, there was a motion to impose the full sentence and Schuppert reached another plea deal in October 2024.

In between, Schuppert was charged with theft of a firearm in Hampton in January 2020, as well as ID fraud and theft by deception-$1,501-plus, also in January 2020 in Hampton. In February 2021, Schuppert pleaded guilty to the firearm charge and received a three-to-eight-year prison sentence. Also that month, he pleaded guilty to the ID fraud and deception charges. Schuppert received a pair of two- to four-year prison sentences, both suspended for four years.

A week after those pleas, Schuppert was accused of theft and criminal trespass in Newmarket, and a couple of weeks later, he was charged with two felony counts of receiving stolen property in Newmarket. In October 2021, Schuppert reached a plea deal on the theft and trespass charges and received a 12-month jail sentence and a three-and-a-half-to-seven-year prison sentence to be served concurrently. In April 2022, the sentence was amended if Schuppert finished programming in prison. A motion was made to impose the sentence in July 2024. Schuppert also pleaded guilty to one of the two stolen property counts and received a two-to-four-year jail sentence, suspended for four years, and $1,300 in restitution to be paid to the victims. In October 2024, he also pleaded to a motion to impose a sentence.

In September 2023, Schuppert was accused of theft by deception-$1,501-plus (conspiracy) in Lee, theft by deception-$1,501-plus in Hampton, and theft by deception-$1,501-plus in Londonderry. Thirteen months later, he pleaded guilty to all the charges and received a one-to-three-year prison sentence in the Londonderry case with 396 days of time served credit, a four-to-eight-year prison sentence on the Hampton charge that was suspended for five years, and a three-to-six-year prison sentence on the Lee charge, suspended for three years, with 46 days of time served credit. In the Lee case, Schuppert was required to pay the victim $14,000 in November 2024. In the Hampton case, $8,140 in restitution was required.
