Trash, Fluids Spill Into Warner River After Truck Crash On I-89

A trucker was cited by troopers for speeding after he rolled a tractor-trailer. A Concord man, who drove into the hauler, escaped injury.

CONCORD, NH — Two drivers were uninjured after an early morning crash Tuesday that closed parts of I-89 for hours and led to trash and fluids spilling into the Warner River. At around 5:30 a.m., New Hampshire State Police were called to the southbound side of the Interstate for a report of a two-vehicle crash. When they arrived, troopers found a tractor-trailer flipped on its side with a pickup truck lodged into the back of the hauler's trailer near Exit 9.

"(An) initial investigation indicated that the vehicle was traveling too fast through the curve of the on ramp, causing the tractor trailer to roll over and slide into the travel portion of the highway," noted Lt. Andrew Player of Troop D.

The tractor-trailer then slid into the path of a Dodge Dakota pickup truck being driven by a Concord man. That driver attempted to avoid a collision by slowing down and changing lanes but stopped only after driving into the debris – and the rear – of the overturned hauler.

The driver of the tractor-trailer — Shilo White, 46, of Charlestown — was hauling trash from Claremont to Rochester at the time of the accident. He was cited by NHSP on a speeding violation. Neither driver was injured.

Troop G troopers who, Player stated, "are highly skilled troopers who have received specialized training to conduct roadside inspections of commercial motor vehicles," were called in to investigate and later, placed the truck, trailer, and driver out of service.

S. G. Reed removed the tractor-trailer from the scene while the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and Environmental Services were contacted to facilitate the cleanup of Interstate due to trash and fluids leaking into the Warner River. The Interstate was closed and traffic diverted for several hours during the cleanup and investigatory processes.

Player stated that Warner Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information pertaining to this crash is asked to contact Trooper Anthony Pratt at 603-223-849
