CONCORD, NH — It took more than a decade, but the Merrimack Valley Youth Baseball and Softball League embezzlement case has finally been closed.

Michelle Toupin of Sherman Drive in Boscawen, the former treasurer of the Merrimack Valley Youth Baseball and Softball League, stole more than $15,000 from the organization and was caught in April 2013. She pleaded guilty to a single felony theft count in February 2014. Family members helped her pay back some of the restitution during her sentencing, leaving her with an $8,000 tab.

For the past 10 years, for whatever reason, Toupin has failed to make payments to the league and the New Hampshire Department of Corrections as part of a plea deal despite being required to make tiny monthly payments of between $50 and $100.

Several times, she came close to being hauled back into court due to the non-payment. Toupin was supposed to have another court hearing in August, but it was postponed when she made a $440 payment to the court. That payment left her with a balance of about $5,500.

However, according to a court filing, Toupin paid the remaining restitution to the court in a lump sum on Nov. 15. The total restitution paid for the docket was $8,035.50 to the New Hampshire House of Corrections, which included a 17 percent collection fee.

The court requested closure of the case, which Judge Martin Honigberg granted Monday.

It is unknown when the league will receive its share of the funds.

According to its website, the league serves boys and girls aged 4 to 16 in Penacook, Boscawen, Salisbury, and Webster. It also offers softball in Loudon and Babe Ruth baseball in Andover.
