Cherry Hill Fugitive, Charged With Murder, Shot Himself During Police Encounter: AG
Kyle Foggy died from the gunshot wound 3 days after he killed a Camden County woman, authorities said.

PEDRICKTOWN, NJ — A Cherry Hill man charged with murder, who died days later following a police encounter, sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound, state authorities determined.
Police encountered Kyle Foggy at the Clara Barton Rest Stop on the New Jersey Turnpike on Feb. 28 — three days after Camden County prosecutors say he fatally shot Michelle Cruz, a 28-year-old Lawnside resident. Foggy got shot "in the presence of law enforcement" that afternoon before he was pronounced dead at the hospital later that night, says the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Previously, the AG's office didn't say who shot Foggy, 29. But the agency revealed Thursday that the Cherry Hill man shot himself. The office will continue investigating the police encounter.

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office charged Foggy with murder and weapons offenses on Feb. 25 — the day law enforcement found the body of Cruz, with whom Foggy had a prior dating relationship. The CCPO forwarded the charges that day to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Law enforcement hasn't disclosed any events that occurred between that moment and Foggy's self-inflicted gunshot that occurred three days later. The AG's office also hasn't released many details about the encounter at the rest stop, including whether Foggy shot himself intentionally or accidentally.
Foggy shot himself at about 1:45 p.m. Feb. 28 in the presence of members of the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators said. He was pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m. that night at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware.
The AG's office isn't releasing any further information as of Thursday.
The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability within the AG's office is conducting the review of Foggy's death, pursuant to a 2019 state directive requiring an independent investigation of criminal cases involving police use of force and in-custody deaths.
Early in the morning Feb. 25, Lawnside police and EMS responded to the 100 block of Mouldy Road, where they found a woman, later identified as Cruz, who had been shot. Following an investigation from the CCPO's Homicide Unit, Foggy was charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
