Union County ACME Stores To Sell Heroin Antidote Narcan Prescription-Free
The nasal spray will be available in all of the chain's New Jersey stores' pharmacies.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — Pharmacies in ACME supermarkets throughout Union County will sell the heroin antidote Naloxone prescription-free, the company announced Monday.
There are ACME stores with pharmacies in Kenliworth and Clark.
Naloxone, which is sold under the name Narcan, counteracts the effect of heroin, fentanyl and other opioid-related overdose drugs. Each 4mg dose is administered as a spray through the nostrils. It is not a substitute for emergency medical care.

ACME pharmacies in Pennsylvania also sell Narcan. Adding the chain's New Jersey locations brings the total number of stores it is available at to 96. The chain has 178 stores in throughout the tri-state area and East Coast.
“The opioid and heroin epidemic cannot be ignored,” said Debi Strunk-Ross, Patient Care Services manager for ACME Markets. “By stocking Narcan nasal spray in our pharmacies, we hope to give our communities — the family, friends, loved ones and caregivers of those struggling with addiction — a tool that might help prevent the avoidable loss of a loved one.”

ACME is the latest New Jersey business to sell Narcan over the counter. CVS began selling it in 2015 and Walgreens started last year.
