East Brunswick Mall Reopens After Fire on Roof

All stores except for the Macy's, where the fire started, are now open.

East Brunswick, NJ - Brunswick Square Mall reopened Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out on the roof of the Macy’s there at 10:12 a.m.

The fire was originally reported as smoke and flames coming from the roof of the mall. The entire mall was evacuated.

Upon arrival, East Brunswick fire crews found the fire was contained to a solar panel on the roof of the Macy’s. The solar panels have electric wiring around them.

Fire department personnel extinguished the fire without any further extension, and the blaze was determined under control at approximately 11:15 a.m. Damage was contained to the roof area and the floors below the fire.

The mall has since reopened, except for the Macy’s wing.

The East Brunswick fire department, police department and Robert Wood Johnson EMS all responded.

Brunswick Square is located at the intersection of Rt. 18 and Rues Lane.
