100s Protest ICE Amid Freezing Temperatures

Amid freezing temperatures, hundreds protested ICE in Jersey City Saturday, after at least 10 immigration arrests across Hudson County, including at a Jersey City-Hoboken light rail station, according to media reports.

Federal authorities said some detainees were accused of re-entering the U.S. after deportation. Protesters, joined by local officials including Hoboken Mayor Emily Jabbour and activist groups, chanted "ICE out" while marching from Riverview-Fisk Park to Pershing Field Park Community Center for a rally, reported News 12.

High Winds Topple Gas Station Canopy

A Delta gas station canopy in Pompton Lakes toppled on Saturday around 1:15 p.m., due to high winds. It knocked over a fuel pump and spilled about a gallon of fuel. The Passaic County Sheriff's Office said county hazmat and health officials responded, no one was injured, and crews will wait until Monday to remove the canopy.

Man Dies In Head-On Crash

A Jackson Township man was killed in a head-on crash between a pickup truck and a van on Friday, police said.

Michael McDonald, 80, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Toms River Road. The crash was reported shortly after 4 p.m. on Toms River Road in the area of Aiden Lane. One of the vehicles was reported to be on fire and a person was reported to be trapped in one of the vehicles.

Fire Damages Manchester Restaurant, Bar

A pair of Manchester Township businesses were left uninhabitable after a fire ripped through them on Saturday, Manchester police said.

Dickey's Barbecue Pit and Whiting Bar and Spirits in the Whiting Town Center at 108 Lacey Road are closed indefinitely as a result of the fire. It was evacuated along with several nearby businesses as a precaution.

Brutal Cold Freezes NJ

One area in the Garden State that saw wind chills drop to –40 from Friday through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Hunterdon County's Glen Gardner reported the lowest temperature in the region at -23 degrees Fahrenheit at 8:20 a.m.

High Point Monument in Sussex County registered a wind chill of -40 degrees Fahrenheit at 7:50 a.m. Sunday morning.
