In a Facebook post, the league thanked Busch, borough administrators, the Recreation Department and the Metuchen DPW for getting the new rink up and running.

“Those folks worked to get approvals and to purchase boards to build a hockey rink in short order and set them up in the parking lot at Myrtle-Charles Park. While the boards are not completely installed, they will be ready to go for opening day on January 7, 2023. There were already kids playing hockey down there last night,” the Metuchen Floor Hockey League said in the post.

The initiative to bring a portable rink began after a group of Metuchen dads worked together to construct a 90-by-50 –foot floor hockey rink on the baseball court at Myrtle-Charles park, last year.

The rink helped kids in the league play during the pandemic.
