Men Who Rescued Girls In Edgewater Fire Honored By County
Sgt. James Dalton and local business owner Tony Nehmi helped save a group of girls at an Edgewater dance studio April 9.

The two men who helped save a group of girls at an Edgewater dance studio April 9 were honored by Bergen County officials.
Flames and smoke from a four-alarm fire trapped girls on the second-floor dance studio. That's when Edgewater Sgt. James Dalton and Edgewater Wine and Spirits owner Tony Nehmi jumped into action.
Dalton used a ladder and climbed onto the roof of an adjacent issues and broke a window to get to the girls.

Several procliminations were read at the Wednesday Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholder meeting honoring the men.
The girls escaped as the flames engulfed the studio. Some of the girls used a ladder while others just jumped. Screaming can be heard as the ladder falls over, and others yell "jump."

"We looked for an exit, but the only way we could get out was the stairs, but they were already on fire," said Samara Lee, 14, one of the girls rescued. "So we huddled in the corner of the balancy, because the flames were really high."
