The annual "battle"—open to all high school bands from Bergen County—offered hopefuls a winner-take-all top prize of $500

The Jack Alter Community Center was really rocking Friday night, when rockers and music fans turned out in force for Fort Lee’s annual Battle of the High School Bands sponsored by the Fort Lee Film Commission FLFC.

The program began with Tom Meyers, executive director of FLFC, introducing fellow film commission members and the roles they would play throughout the night.

Stacy D'Arc was one of the judges and MC for the entire show. She even demonstrated what it was like to be part of a "mosh pit" back in the day.

“I was demonstrating ‘the pogo,’ a safer alternative to slam dancing which itself is an earlier incarnation of moshing,” D’Arc later said. “Pogoing occurs vertically, while moshing is from side to side, slamming into others. When large groups participate, it is called a mosh pit. It would be impossible to demonstrate a mosh pit, as you need other people to slam into or you just fall over.”

And the "Battle Of The Bands" drew a very enthusiastic audience.

Always an energizing program, this show gets better each year in terms of talent. These kids were the best performers yet.

When, the winner was to be announced, Paul Umrichin, the other judge, also took the stage with Stacy. Umrichin assured all the bands just how good their performances were.

All the bands were given about 12 minutes to "impress and dazzle" the audience, but in the end it was "Starless" that took home the $500 top prize.
