Friday night was a hot night at the Jack Alter Fort Lee Community Center. An all-female group called ELAS that had won top prize a couple of years before at the Battle of the Bands contest held at the Center was back to prove itself once more. The girls, who are all family in the literal sense, are part Portuguese and call their band ELAS as it means "them" (the female pronoun) in Portuguese. The drummer, a cousin, and sisters, playing lead and bass, simply outdid themselves in every number, traveling the decades as easily as pros -- for example, performing a rendition of the classic, "I Will Survive" that could easily be a hit today on the radio. ELAS was a hard act to resist, as they brought moms, tots and teens alike to their feet with their hard-driving sound and rallied spirits with their professional and inspiring banter. The Fort Lee Community rallied back, "Rock On ELAS!"
A Q & A following ELAS's act was done by Fort Lee Film Commission volunteer Stacy D'Arc, who also is also a judge for The Battle of the Bands event.
