Junior Maldonado was sworn in there as the first Latino president of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey. The group of county clerks, sheriffs, surrogates and registers meets to improve services statewide, and Maldonado says he'll focus on bipartisan cooperation that ultimately shapes how local residents are served.

• Stockton students and staff rally against layoffs (breakingac.com) — Stockton University's Galloway campus is facing at least 21 staff and faculty layoffs by the end of the academic year, prompting a student and union-led rally demanding alternatives. Protesters also criticized leadership over financial decisions and the removal of language about Gaza from university communications, saying the cuts and communication choices are hurting campus life and academic support.
