Haddonfield Superintendent Announces Sudden Retirement

Dr. Richard Perry will be out of the school the rest of the year for an "urgent family matter." He was set to retire on June 30.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Haddonfield Superintendent of Schools Dr. Richard Perry will retire from his position effective Feb. 28, 2018 due to what the district describes as an “urgent family matter.” Initially, he was going to retire when his contract expired on June 30, 2018.

The Board of Education voted in July not to renew Perry’s contract. He will now be out of the office for the rest of the school year, and his retirement will be accepted at the Board of Education meeting on Jan. 4, 2018, according to the district. An interim superintendent will then be named while the Board of Education continues its regional search for his successor.

“Haddonfield has been the greatest educational experience I ever had and the administrative team was, by far, the best I have ever known,” Perry said. “Your loyalty and friendship have been very much treasured and appreciated. The students are absolutely the most academically, athletically, and artistically talented students that anyone can ever imagine.”

I’m glad that he can be with his family in a time of need. All of us on the Board have appreciated working with him through the years, and have always appreciated his kind persona.”
