Identity of Suspect in Police-Involved Shooting in South Jersey Released

Police were responding to a call for a domestic violence situation when a gunfight broke out Tuesday night.

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office has released the identity of the suspect in a fatal police-involved shooting that took place in Camden Tuesday night.

Freddy Baez, 24, of Camden, was fatally shot during a shootout with two Camden County Police officers who were responding to a 911 call for a domestic violence disturbance on the 3200 block of Rutledge Walk around 7 p.m.

Officers were alerted during the call that Baez may be armed.

When officers arrived on the scene, a gunfight broke out.

Baez was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later. Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. The officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. Police didn’t reveal their identities.
