"It just felt like somebody was definitely trying to get us," Whitlock said in the report.

"Trump" was also written in large letters inside the house, according to the report.

There has been an uptick of incidents motivated by racism and hatred since Donald Trump was elected president last month. The hateful acts have occurred in schools, college campuses, businesses and places of worship.

Whitlock's wife Nikita said on Instagram that, "Racism is real and instead of close to home this time they came inside. My family is safe but we are saddened by the hate."

Whitlock also said in the report that there was an attempted break-in at the house three weeks ago.

Fans expressed their sympathy and prayers to the family on Twitter Thursday.
