Hoboken residents will get another option for grocery shopping soon: a 14,000 square foot supermarket uptown. Find out when it will open.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Urban Market, a new 14,000-square-foot supermarket run by the owners of Brooklyn's Dumbo Market, is inching closer to opening in uptown Hoboken.
Signage recently appeared in the windows amid ongoing construction at the base of the residential building at 1425 Washington St. (See above photos.)
2nd Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher said Tuesday in her newsletter, "Although I had originally heard late spring for opening, I heard yesterday it was more likely to be a summer opening. Can’t wait!"

That newly developed block of upper Washington Street contains several businesses, including Cork Wines & Spirits, Toastique, and a Montessori school. The Daybase coworking space has closed.
Dumbo opened its first location in the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) section of Brooklyn at 66 Front St. The Hoboken location will be its first in New Jersey.

It will have some competition from Trader Joe's and Kings Fresh, each a few blocks away. But it will be twice the size of the 7,000-foot Kings.
The real estate firm behind the building notes on its website, "Hoboken is making the suburbs cool again with its walkable and culture-laden downtown core drawing affluent millennials, first-rate retailers, and young families looking to escape the city."
Meanwhile, the former southern-Hoboken location of Kings that closed in 2020 is supposed to be replaced by Sprove Market eventually. And a supermarket is also expected to come to the southwest corner of town once the former Chambord space at 38 Jackson St. is redeveloped.
