As Patch was the first reported last year, a relatively new gourmet pizza restaurant on Newark Street, Verizza Pizza, closed after less than a year in business. However, experienced restaurateur David Carney has taken over the space for Madison Pizza Lab, which is close to opening, according to its social media. They even participated in the recent Hoboken Pizza Fest for charity. As the photo above shows, there's not even a need to remove all the lettering for "Verizza" to use it for "Pizza!" Said the store on Facebook, "We're almost there."

Can't wait to serve y'all" but has not yet responded to customers' posts asking for the date. "Tease," commented one hungry patron.
