Man Charged With Murder Of Beloved Jersey City Teacher
A man faces murder charges after local coach and teacher Anthony Bello was stabbed to death on Sunday.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City man has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a beloved local teacher and coach, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
Charles Lowy, 68, faces murder charges for allegedly killing Anthony Bello, 77, in a Jersey City park on Sunday. According to Suarez, Lowy stabbed Bello in the chest sometime before 8:15 a.m. in Pershing Field, near Manhattan and Central Avenues. Bello died at the hospital later that morning.
Lowy was not at the scene when police officers responded to the park; he was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation.

Suarez didn't say what lead to the stabbing, only that the two men had been in an "altercation."
Bello was a local fixture who once gave $100 worth of carnival tickets to four children, according to nj.com. He was a retired teacher from St. Nicholas who often stopped to talk to his neighbors after getting his morning cup of coffee.

He was known as "the mayor of the block," and was remembered fondly by other neighborhood residents.
"You always see him around, you always say hi, but to have him pass away like that... actually hit me now," a former student of his told PIX 11. "We definitely lost a man of the community."
