1. 45+ New Businesses Coming to Hoboken + Jersey City in Fall 2026 (hobokengirl.com) — More than a dozen new spots are opening or coming soon to Jersey City, from ramen and pizza joints to gyms, markets, and arts studios. Residents can look forward to Chelsea Piers, MENSHO Ramen, Barchino on the waterfront, and several new cafes, fitness studios, and specialty shops that promise fresh dining, wellness, and entertainment options around town.
   

2. Former N.J. tenant not liable for rent after lease ended, appeals court rules (nj.com subscription) — A recent New Jersey appeals court ruling involving a Jersey City apartment found a former tenant not liable for rent his ex-wife failed to pay after their 15‑month lease ended. The decision clarifies that once he moved out, notified the landlord, and declined renewal, he wasn't responsible for post‑lease holdover rent, and the trial court must reconsider the security deposit.
   

3. Hoboken, Jersey City Dig Out After Nor'easter: See Photos, Rain Totals (patch.com) — Jersey City officials report only minor storm damage after the weekend nor'easter, but they had urged residents to avoid the waterfront because of flooding, debris, and dangerous winds. All parks, roads, and flood‑prone streets are now open, though more rain and coastal flooding remain in the short‑term forecast.
   

4. New Jersey Hiker Ignored Multiple Warnings to Turn Around on Mt. Washington Leading To Rescue (patch.com) — A 48‑year‑old Jersey City man had to be rescued overnight from Mount Washington's Boott Spur Trail after repeatedly refusing his companions' advice to turn back due to exhaustion. New Hampshire conservation officers and volunteer rescuers reached him after midnight, helped him down to an ATV, and he was later evaluated and taken to a local hospital for precautionary treatment.
   

5. Secaucus Police Blotter, Sept. 21 - Sept. 27 (patch.com) — Secaucus police last week arrested a Jersey City woman at Walmart on an outstanding no-bail warrant and transported her to the Jersey City Police Department. The blotter also details several other DWI, trespassing, theft, and warrant arrests in nearby towns, offering a snapshot of recent regional public safety activity.
